The ITIL Strategy course provides guidance on developing, implementing and continually adjusting strategy in volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) environments. ITIL Strategy is intended to empower candidates to act with clarity and confidence by ensuring every technology investment supports business strategy and outcomes, in alignment with the ITIL guidance. Furthermore, the qualification will provide the candidates with the confidence that products and services deliver measurable value and embed a culture of trust, agility, and continuous value co-creation in a rapidly evolving world.
ITIL Strategy examines the development and implementation of strategy in digitally enabled organisations. It provides a model for strategy management, an overview of the capabilities needed to compete in a digital world and guidance on how organisations can evaluate potential opportunities for competitive differentiation. ITIL Strategy offers a perspective about innovation, helping organisations to prepare for and successfully manage cycles of disruptive technology. Ultimately, it equips leaders to navigate disruptions for the benefit of their organisations and stakeholders.
ITIL Foundation is a prerequisite for this ITIL Service (Version 5) course.

What is ITIL Version 5?
ITIL is the Global Best Practice framework for Digital Product and Service Management. Adopted by over 3M professionals worldwide, powering 82% of the Fortune 500, and built on the trust of over 50,000 organisations, ITIL has long set the standard for excellence in service management.
ITIL Version 5 is an evolution of ITL 4. It goes beyond ITSM - as IT roles move to the front lines of the business, it’s relevant wherever digital products and services create value. ITIL (Version 5) is the next evolution of the world’s most trusted management framework. It’s designed for AI-driven, digital-first organisations and expands ITIL from service management to full digital product and service management.
ITIL (Version 5) guides organisations in managing digital products, services, customer experience and end-to-end digital operations in a structured and future-ready way.
Many organisations manage products and services separately, creating gaps in delivery, reliability and customer experience. In reality Product and Services are the same side of the coin:
- Products are what organisations build
- Services are how value is delivered and supported
Digital products and services are two sides of one solution. ITIL (Version 5) unifies them into one lifecycle so teams can:
- Design together
- Build and launch together
- Operate and improve together
The result: faster delivery, fewer gaps, better experiences, stronger business outcomes.
About the ITIL Strategy Course
Whether amid uncertainty and disruption or in stable environments, strategy matters because it offers organisations clarity of purpose and direction. Without strategy, decisions become fragmented, resources are dispersed, and opportunities for value creation are missed. A well-formed strategy connects vision with execution by defining not only where an organisation intends to go but also how it will allocate resources, manage risks, and build capabilities to get there. In this sense, strategy is not simply a plan or a document; it is the ongoing discipline of aligning organisational ambition and capabilities with contextual realities.
Strategy enables organisations to prioritise among competing demands, decide which opportunities to pursue and which to set aside, and establish governance structures that balance short-term performance with long-term sustainability. By doing so, strategy becomes the mechanism through which organisations navigate change, coordinate actions across functions, and create coherence in pursuit of shared objectives.
ITIL Strategy is the organisational capability to define, direct and sustain value creation in dynamic environments. It translates strategic intent into actionable, sustainable change, supports evidence-based decision-making, balances ambition with operational capacity, and maintains relevance through continual learning and adaptation across the service lifecycle.
The ITIL Strategy course equips candidates to act with clarity and confidence by aligning technology investments with business strategy and outcomes, in line with ITIL guidance. It helps ensure that digital products and services deliver measurable value while embedding a culture of trust, agility, and continual value co-creation in a rapidly evolving environment.
The ITIL Strategy course helps organisations align technology, investment and execution with business strategy. The course provides organisations with a structured approach for development and implementation of an effective and sustainable digital strategy. It helps ensure organisations invest their resources wisely; create, manage, and deliver optimal products and services; and provide great experience for customers, users, and other stakeholders. It supports confident decision-making in complex, fast-changing environments.
This guidance helps candidates and organisations to:
- Ensure strategic capabilities are fit for purpose and support the organisation’s vision and mission
- Formalise and develop existing strategic capabilities with clearer governance and communication
- Improves the performance of key parts of the Service Value System (SVS), particularly governance, while considering all four dimensions of service management
- Provides clarity and confidence to make balanced, sustainable decisions while maintaining focus on purpose and values.
